Youth Missions
We believe that one of the greatest ways to grow one's faith is to actively engage with the world and help to bring about God's kingdom in the world today. The youth at Asbury do that through being actively involved in mission. Throughout their daily lives, we encourage youth to be aware of where God is at work in the world, and join in that work. The youth have been active with various local mission opportunities by helping out with Habitat for Humanity, participating in the 30 Hour Famine and serving food at Glide UMC in San Francisco.
The youth also participate in mission trips. Asbury has been very involved with the Sierra Service Project (SSP), the Center for Student Missions (CSM) and some urban ministry up in North Sacramento. If you want to read through some posts from adults and youth while on our mission trips, you'll want to read our church's mission blog. You can also check out various photo galleries for those trips below:
2012 Summer Mission Trips
We have two exciting trips in the works for next summer. First, we have an intergenerational mission trip that is being planned for youth and families at Camp Lodestar. The dates we are hoping will work are August 9-12. Be on the lookout for more information about this trip.
Our youth mission trip (for youth who have completed grades 7-12, including recent graduates) will be July 15-21, 2012, with The Door this summer, and we'll be going to Hollywood, California. You can find out more information about The Door here. We have over 20 youth currently signed up, and Teri Lambert is one of our adult leaders. There are 3 more slots open for youth - so if you're still interested, please contact either Pastor Kim Risedorph or Teri Lambert.
