Asbury is blessed with seven different musical groups!
There are three children’s and youth singing choirs, kindergarten through high school. These choirs focus on producing a good vocal sound, but also use percussion instruments, play musical games, learn music theory, perform in plays, and make good friends. Children and youth rehearse after service on Sundays, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Adult groups include:
Faith Choir – The Faith Choir is an adult choir of about 30 members, singing mostly contemporary SATB music, accompanied by piano, flute and occasionally by other percussion instruments. Jean Braun is the director.
Asbury Ringers Handbell Choir – a handbell choir of 14 ringers and 62 handbells, spanning over five octaves. Directed by Beckie Wiley. Rehearsals are Sunday nights from 7 – 8:30 PM.
The Asbury Band – The Asbury Band plays Christian rock music approximately once per month. They practice on Tuesday evenings in the Sanctuary at 7:30 p.m. If you’d like more information about the band, please contact Dave Gamble.
First Watch – 10 musicians doing contemporary Christian music using guitar, bass guitar and piano as accompaniment.
Most adult groups rehearse one night per week for 1½ hours and play once or twice per month at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service. The musical season for adult groups begins on the Wednesday after Labor Day in September and goes through the first Sunday in June.
There are no auditions, and anyone interested in singing or playing an instrument is welcome to come to a rehearsal or contact one of the adult directors.
All adult groups perform in the annual Asbury Christmas concert, held the second Sunday of December at 7:00 p.m. in Asbury’s Sanctuary. All musical groups perform on Music Celebration Sunday the first Sunday in June.
