Grow in Faith
The Men’s Study Group is currently using the study, Blue Like Jazz, by Donald Miller. The purpose of the group is for spiritual growth through open discussions based on the topics suggested by the study book. There is some homework, typically 10-20 pages of reading. Other recent books include The Sacred Way – Spiritual Practices for Everyday Life by Tony Jones, and Belief in God in an age of science by John Polkinghorne. The group provides a comfortable, non-judgmental environment to discuss, with other men, a broad range of issues of how to strengthen our faith and live fruitful lives.
The group meets every Thursday morning from 7:45-8:45 a.m. in room 11/12. The time shifts occasionally to match schedules of participants or potential participants. Contact Art Molvik for more information.
Women of the Spirit is open, but the size of the group is limited to 12. They are currently reading and discussing Re-Claiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World by John Shelby Spong.
The group meets Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in members’ homes. Contact Joanne Abey for more information and for the meeting place.
Loose Canons is not a formal study, but rather we read whatever strikes our fancy. We share lunch at every meeting which is provided by the members on a rotating basis. It is a Bible study group led by Dr. Margie Brown. Margie attended Asbury before she got her Doctorate in Theology from Pacific School of Religion. Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. at Evelynne Schwartz’s home. Contact Joanne Abey for more information.
Moms’ Bible Study Circle meets each week and is currently using “The Wired Word,” a question and answer format based on a current event from the week. It is an exploration of our world and how we interpret our own Christian values. Moms of all ages are invited to join us. Childcare is available upon request. Wednesdays from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Contact Mitchie McCammon for more information.
