Who We Are
Founded in 1995 as an inter-faith effort, Open Heart Kitchen’s mission is to offer nutritious meals free of charge to disadvantaged people of the Tri-Valley. OHK offers the only free meal service of its kind in the area and served over 100,000 meals in 2005.
We take pride in serving delicious, nutritious meals to anyone in need. We have no qualifying process. All are welcome. Guests can eat as much as they need or take meals home.
East Livermore Hot Meal Program
Supporting families and individuals in need in Livermore, the East Livermore Hot Meal Program is Open Heart Kitchen’s “flagship” project where the agency has been addressing the hunger needs of the community for over ten years. Meals are available from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Asbury United Methodist Church, 4743 East Avenue, Livermore. Anyone can receive a free nutritious hot meal made from scratch by volunteers. Meals include a protein and a starch (like chicken and rice), fresh vegetables, green salad, fruit salad, beverages and dessert. Guests are welcome to either dine in or take meals to go.
Asbury provides a team to prepare and serve meals from 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday each month. For more information about participating, contact Bill Groth or the church office.
As a privately funded agency, Open Heart Kitchen solely depends on the generous financial support of our community. We need your financial support in order to continue our mission to provide hot meals to the hungry in the Tri-Valley.
By taking advantae of donated food and the hard work of our volunteers, we are able to keep the food cost to under $1.50 per meal. Over 91% of donated dollar goes directly to providing meals to people in need.
