Thank You From Fertile GroundWorks

Dear Asbury members,

Our heartfelt thank you to everyone whom attended our Taste for Giving fundraiser this past Sunday evening. It was a wonderful success and we hope that everyone had as much fun as we had. Fertile GroundWorks is only able to grow because of your generous support.

Our sincere gratitude to the people who gave months of their time organizing and setting up the event, Ruth H., Nancy G., Dave D., Tony G., Gail B., Leila E., Karen and Paul B., Larry W., Ron L., Bob C. Steve G. Rebecca K. and Dick C.. The event wouldn’t have happened without you all. Thank you!

Some of you may have already heard, but in case you haven’t, Fertile GroundWorks just started selling produce in a You Pick format on Friday afternoons from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9:00 until noon. Right now, the garden has lots of growing and ready to harvest tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, zucchini and other summer squashes, cucumbers, kale and beans. We have been asking for $2.00/pound of produce harvested.

Not sure how to harvest a bell pepper? No worries, the first few times you come to harvest in the garden you will have a personal shopper who will show you around the garden, pointing out the veggies that are ready to harvest, plus giving help harvesting and filling out the records we try to keep. We selected the dates of the You Pick to help the garden operate at optimal production levels so that we can continue to our vegetable donations to Open Heart Kitchen and local food pantries during the week. Having a second set of weekly harvests means the plants keep producing, and we have less over-ripe veggies from week to week. So far this year it seems to be working wonderfully. We hope that you will come and try it out for yourselves.
