2021-2022 Tri-Valley Bus Pass Drive

Wheels and Rapid Buses

This season we kick off the sixth annual Bus Pass drive to help provide much-needed bus rides for members of our community who have no other form of transportation, and cannot afford to purchase tickets.

The COVID pandemic has impacted so many in our community, and the needs are greater than ever. The goal of the Bus Pass Drive is to provide 24-hour Wheels bus passes to everyone in our community who needs public transportation and cannot afford the cost. This enables people to get to medical appointments, food pantries for groceries, jobs and job interviews, many local services such as hot meals, showers, and laundry, and much more.

This drive, formerly called ‘Bus Ticket Drive’, has been renamed to reflect the new 24 hour passes. These passes cost $3.75 and can be used unlimited times during a 24-hour period.

Your generous donations in the past have enabled us to distribute thousands of bus passes to our neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet. The passes are issued to many local organizations that provide direct services to people in need, such as: Livermore Homeless RefugeOpen Heart KitchenAsbury United Methodist Church (they provide free showers and laundry), Interfaith Sharing Food Pantry, Axis Community Health, and Tri-Valley Haven, and numerous smaller service organizations. They in turn distribute the tickets to those most in need.

Here are a few quotes from some bus pass recipient organizations:

From Donna McKenzie of Livermore Homeless Refuge: “A bus ticket is not a Band-Aid but rather a life preserver for our friends living on the street, struggling in their day to day lives. The cold, rainy season is here, making it even more difficult for them to get around. Please help us help them.”

From Rosemary Young of Interfaith Food Pantry: “Our food pantry clients use bus passes for getting to work, shopping and other errands. Sometimes one bus pass can solve what seems like an insurmountable problem of how to get to a doctor’s appointment or job interview.”

From Sue Compton, CEO AXIS Community Health: “About 20% of our patients rely on public transportation to access health care services. Your ticket contribution will enable us to provide bus tickets to patients who need to access lab services, x-rays, or specialty care and to connect with other basic need providers. Your gift meant that the cost for bus trips to receive care will be one less concern for our patients.”
