Making a Difference for Victims of the Caldor and Dixie Fires

In response to last summer’s Dixie and Caldor fires, members of Asbury donated some $2600 for wildfire relief. After discussions with Steve Elliot, we transferred about $1.6K to the conference disaster relief fund to help pay for their costs, which included gift cards the conference gave to survivors. The remaining $1000 was transferred to one of the “front line” churches, El Dorado County Federated Church, in Placerville.

Pastor Laura Barnes from El Dorado County Federated Church sent us a note that clearly explains how funds like these are used. She wrote,

“….please thank your congregation for us. We were able to tour the Caldor Fire burn areas with UMC Bishop Minerva Carcaño and members of UMCOR, several weeks ago. The destruction to the area, especially the town of Grizzly Flats, is so difficult to experience. We are currently working with the survivors as well as several community groups that have sprung up to assist our neighbors. We will be involved in recovery from this devastating fire for years to come.
Your donation to our Caldor Fire Victims Relief Fund here at Federated Church will enable us to provide rental assistance, support for utility bills, temporary lodging, food, gas and other critical needs for those who have yet to receive any payments from their insurance companies… as well as those who were renters without any insurance. The need is great and your gift will go a long way to provide support to our community.
With deep appreciation,

Thanks Asbury your contributions have made tangible difference!
