The Resettlement of the family from Yemen is off to a good start

After arriving on May 9th from Turkey, our family, mother – Abeet Naji Yahya Ahmed and sons Ali Ayed Matai (12) and Naji Ayet Matai (9) moved into an apartment in Daly City a week later.

Thanks to the outstanding support and donations from our participating United Methodist Churches we were able to easily furnish the family’s small, but nicely remodeled apartment.  We will be adding more furnishings as needed.  We also supplied a nice start on kitchen, bedding, linens and other household goods.

Working with Catholic Charities, the family will soon have access to income and food assistance and public medical benefits. We will be helping with the near term rent and utilities until Abeet has a job.  The family has a very committed sponsor, Diya, who is assisting with many of the resettlement challenges and helping to integrate the family into the local community.  The kids will be attending a local school.  Everyone already speaks some English and seems very adaptable to their new surroundings.

We will be looking for additional help as needed.  So stay tuned. Asbury, we appreciate your generous support!
