Asbury UMC’s Proposed New Office Building

Proposed Asbury UMC Office Building

Proposed Asbury Office Building

After two years of study and research, the Trustees have recommended that Asbury build a new modular office building on the existing site of the current office, retaining the enclosed privacy of our courtyard. Our current office modular was purchased pre-owned and installed in 1978. It served as a bank building prior to that and is over 50 years old.

A Church Conference was held on Sunday June 23 after the service to consider whether to move forward on this project. An affirmative vote would provide authority for a nominating committee to nominate the capital campaign and building committees to raise funds and oversee construction. Pastor Kathy La Point-Collup presided, Nick Constant recorded the minutes and attendees all signed in. Only church members were permitted to vote, per rules in the UMC Book of Discipline.

President of Trustees Dave David conducted the informational meeting and displayed architectural plans. Mr. Don Shoop, President of Performance Modular discussed the modular construction techniques, showed pictures of another church he had built, and answered questions.

The plans shown detailed a new 36′ x 66′ modular office building totaling 2,376 square feet. The current office is 1,920 square feet.

A paper ballot vote was taken and 96% voted in favor of the proposal: 77 member ballots were cast: 74 voted yes, 1 voted no and 2 abstained.

Pastor Kathy and Trustees will now proceed to form these committees and begin work to provide Asbury a new administrative office building.
