Children’s Ministry Update from Jackie Bennett

Jackie Bennett Asbury United Methodist ChurchChildren’s Ministries and I would like to thank Tina Morris for all of the years of love and care with which she has blessed our children, their families, and our church community. We wish Tina many blessings, love, and joy on her new journey in life and we look forward to keeping in touch with her.

I am very excited to be your new Children’s Ministries Director and look forward to serving our community with love, as we celebrate together growing in our faith, while centered in Jesus Christ. I would like to thank Tina and all of Asbury for the abundance of kind words, encouragement, cards, and support.

I grew up in Livermore and have worked with children and their families in various diverse capacities in the Livermore community since 1989. I earned a BA in Human Development and Early Childhood Education from California State University of Hayward and I worked as a Director of a School Age Child Care Center for Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District for a number of years before choosing to be a stay home mom to care for our three wonderful children, Chloe, Emily, and Dylan, with the love and support of my husband Rich. The guiding compass of my life has always been a deep spiritual connection to God and Jesus. My family and I have been active participants of the Asbury community since 2005. I look forward to providing a loving, accepting, and caring environment for children of our congregation and their families, as we connect to the presence of God and grow in faith together.

Some of my hobbies are playing board games, drawing, camping, water skiing, taking yoga classes, reading spiritual growth books, watching “Super Soul Sunday” episodes, and laughing with my family and friends.

VBS was an amazing experience for all this year. We had over 50 excited campers, 37+ wonderful volunteers, one terrific Director, and one awesome Producer who, with a supportive team of creative station leaders, created their own original VBS curriculum which will last for a lifetime in the memories of all who have been touched by this special week. Thank you everyone who made VBS such a meaningful time for us to all: ‘Grow with God’. You know you are doing wonderful things when a few children express out loud, while waiting in line to go into their next station that they would love for VBS to be for a whole month. And this took place before our famous Thursday water play day with a GIANT waterslide!

We are in full swing with Summer Sunday School and are in need of a few more volunteers to come and spend some precious time with our amazing children. Please see the sign up board in the Fellowship Hall at the “Asbury Kids” table or email me at church if you can help out.
