Faith in Fiction: Does the Contemporary Novel Have a Prayer?

Ron Charles, editor of the book section in the Washington Post, will be speaking at San Ramon Valley UMC, January 27, 7pm. This event, sponsored by Asbury and other churches in our Circuit, is an opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to hear a noted speaker reflect on how God and religion are portrayed in contemporary fiction.

Ron and his wife Dawn have worshipped with us at Asbury, and found it delightful and meaningful. His talk will reflect on the meaning found in church and religion. Ron has been a book critic for several years; has won the National Book Critic Circle Award for best criticism; and recently served as a juror for the Pulizter Prize in Fiction.

He will draw on fiction including “Gilead” “Home” and “Lila” by Marilynne Robinson. For a complete booklist of recommended titles, stop by the church office. Tickets are $5 at the door.
See you there….and bring a friend, or two, or the whole book club.
