Jim Winkler, National Council of Churches
“San Francisco East Bay:
What does the Lord require of you?”
Sunday, August 9
San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church
902 Danville Blvd, Alamo
Our speaker, Jim Winkler, is the President and General Secretary of the National Council of Churches. Until last summer he served as General Secretary of the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society for 14 years. He is a passionate speaker on the subject of where and how the Church and world intersect.
Winkler provides leadership in ecumenical and interfaith discussions around the world. He has traveled recently to Armenia and Burma to represent a voice of faith at times of oppression. In every setting, he advocates for mutual understanding, world peace, and justice.
Sign up through the church office to attend the luncheon and give a donation to $5 to reserve your spot. Invite your friends of other faith communities to join in this ecumenical event. Encourage them to register in advance so that we can prepare for the luncheon.
Statement of Faith of the National Council of Churches
“The National Council of Churches is a community of Christian communions, which, in response to the gospel as revealed in the Scriptures, confess Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, as Savior and Lord. These communions covenant with one another to manifest ever more fully the unity of the Church. Relying upon the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, the communions come together as the Council in common mission, serving in all creation to the glory of God.”
