Meet Asbury’s New Worship Accompanist and Hand Bell Director

We welcome Fernanda Van Atta (pronounced FUR-NAHN-duh VAN A-tuh) as our new worship accompanist (both organ and piano) beginning June 1 and as Asbury Ringer’s Director in August (or whenever we are able to gather in person again).  Fernanda begins the worship accompanist position part-time as she and Allen Schell share the position. Fernanda will move towards full time over the next 18 months as Allen moves into the Organist Emeritus position.  Beckie Wiley has retired as the Asbury Ringer’s Director as of May 31 and Fernanda will take the baton from Beckie.

Fernanda is a 2019 graduate of Concordia University in Irvine, Ca where she earned her B.A. in music education. At Concordia, Fernanda was deeply involved in the Hand Bell Program and her major instrument was Viola.  She currently is  a studio teacher and teaches private lessons in violin, viola and piano as well as preparing interested students for ABRSM exams and the US International Music Competition.  She has worked as Artistic Operations Coordinator for the annual Lutheran Summer Music Academy in Minneapolis and served as Sacristan for Lutheran summer Music in Valparaiso, IN. She has also subbed as pianist and organist in local churches.

Fernanda enjoys hiking, baking, running and travel. She has two dogs, Sydney and Addie. Sydney is a Catahoula Leopard Dog and Addie’s breed is anyone’s guess. Please join us in giving Fernanda a warm welcome. Her first Sunday is June 7.
