Open Heart Kitchen to Serve at Asbury on Mondays, 3:30-5:30pm

Asbury and Open Heart Kitchen have worked together for many years. Open Heart Kitchen provides fresh, nutritious meals to anyone in need. In 2016, they served over 365,000 meals to the hungry in our community.

OHK has been serving a hot meal on our campus each Tuesday and Wednesday. They had been serving a meal on Monday afternoons at a different site, and for reasons unrelated to OHK, that site could no longer accommodate them. OHK then asked us if they could serve at Asbury, 3:30-5:30pm on Mondays. The Monday meal would be prepared at their Pleasanton site and brought to Asbury; meals would not be prepared in our kitchen.
Church leaders and pastors met with OHK executives to discuss this possibility. We agreed to try it for six months, and then evaluate. We agreed that partnering with OHK is a part of our purpose and identity as a church that follows Jesus Christ.
OHK reimburses us for using our facility. And starting on Monday, July 31, they will pay $1250 a month.

Thank you, Asbury, for serving the community in this way! If you would like to learn more about supporting OHK, stop by the Serving Others with Love table in the fellowship hall after worship. Asbury helps prepare and serve a meal once a month. You can also volunteer to be a greeter when OHK is on campus. Greeters open the door and welcome people as they arrive for a meal. It’s a great way to meet people and learn more about our community. See Margo Platt for more information on volunteering as a greeter: [email protected]
